Woodshole Research Center

For this renovation of the Woods Hole Research Center headquarters, Central restored, recycled and reused parts of a 170-year old Colonial farm house to create the prototype Green Building.

The 20,000 square foot center includes a ground source heat pump system that uses the solar heat stored in the ground rather than using fossil fuels and a photovoltaic roofing panel system that uses solar energy to supply heat.  The paint used does not omit harmful gases detrimental to the ozone layer.  Finally ash beams and wood flooring from the original structure were reused so that no existing forests were harmed in the procurement of lumber.
